Georgetown is the capital city of Guyana and is also its largest city. It has been nicknamed “Garden City of the Caribbean” owing to its natural beauty and pleasant environment. The city serves as a retail, financial services and administrative center in Guyana. Georgetown is a major tourist destination in South America, and forms a part of the West Indies, although it is not an island like the other nations in the group. Georgetown has a large number of tourist attractions, including St. George’s Anglican Cathedral, Stabroek Market, Demerara Harbour Bridge, the Guyana museum, and the Pegasus Hotel. Georgetown also contains several museums and other historical sites. The Georgetown Cricket Club Grounds are one of West Indies’ main test cricket grounds.
