Kozhikode is a city in the state of Kerala in India. It is the third largest city in the state and was previously known as Calicut. It earned the nickname “City of Spices” for its role as a major trading port for a wide variety of eastern spices. Kozhikode has a long history of the spice trade, first with Arab merchants, and then with European countries. Kozhikode was more recently nicknamed “City of Sculptures” for a large number of architectural sculptures throughout the city.
